Emergency locksmith in Aspe, for the door that will not open tonight

The door clicked shut with the keys on the kitchen table. The keys went missing somewhere between the bar and home. A key snapped in the cylinder, or the lock refuses to close as you are leaving. Whatever the hour, ring and a person answers.

The calls

The situations that justify a night call-out

  • Locked out with the keys inside. A door that has only been pulled shut is usually opened through the latch or the cylinder, with no damage.
  • Keys lost or stolen. You are let in first. Whether the lock then needs changing depends on whether the keys could lead someone to your door; a bag with the keys and your address in it is a reason to change the cylinder.
  • A key snapped in the lock. The broken piece is drawn out and the cylinder checked; if it is worn enough to have caused the break, it is replaced.
  • A lock that will not lock. You should not have to leave a house or a unit open overnight. The aim that night is a door that locks; anything bigger is booked for later.
  • Signs of a break-in. If the door has been forced, the page on repairs after a break-in explains the first visit.
  • Keys locked in the car. Covered at any hour: see car lockout in Aspe.

Step by step

From the phone call to a closed door behind you

  1. You ring or send a WhatsApp

Where you are and what has happened. If you can, a photo of the lock from outside.

  2. You hear the honest distance

An estimate of the drive from wherever the van is right then. Being reachable at any hour is not the same as being round the corner, and you are told which it is.

  3. The lock is looked at, the price is agreed

Nothing is touched until you know what will be done and what it costs.

  4. The door is opened, and checked

Through the lock wherever it allows. Before leaving, the locksmith makes sure the door closes and locks again.

Aspe at night

Getting to you in the centre, the urbanisations and the countryside

The old centre. The Plaza Mayor is a single-level square closed to traffic, and calle Nuncio, Virgen del Carmen, San Miguel and the Plaza de Santa Bárbara were pedestrianised around it. At night the van parks at the edge and the locksmith comes the rest of the way on foot, so give the square or the corner you are nearest to.

August. The fiestas in honour of the Virgen de las Nieves run from 3 to 21 August, and in even years the image comes to Aspe from Hondón de las Nieves. Late nights, crowds and keys lost in the middle of it are part of those weeks. The guide on locking up before the Traída is worth a read before you go out.

Out of town. Montesol, Santa Elena and the fincas of the parajes have long roads and few numbers. A location pin sent from the gate is what gets the van there; the page on finca and villa locks covers those houses in daylight too.

Hondón de las Nieves, Hondón de los Frailes and Agost are covered at night as well. The page on where we go lists them with the quarters of Aspe.

While you wait

Three things to do, and two to avoid

  • Stay somewhere you can hear the phone and be seen from the street.
  • Keep any broken key, and the bag or keyring if you found it.
  • If you rent, have the contract or a message from the owner on your phone.
  • Do not force the door with a shoulder or a bar: a frame costs far more than a lock.
  • Do not climb to a balcony. No door is worth a fall.

Inherited a house and found no keys at all? That is rarely an emergency; the guide on an inherited house in the old centre explains the calmer route.

Asked on the phone

Questions people ask in the middle of the night

It is three in the morning. Does a person answer, or a machine?

A person. The line is picked up at any hour of any day, and call-outs go ahead at night for anyone shut out of a home, a car or a unit.

How soon can someone be at my door?

That depends on where the van is when you ring, so no fixed time is promised. You are given an honest estimate on the phone before anyone sets off, and you decide from there.

Half the key is still stuck in the lock. Can I pull it out with pliers?

Leave it. Pliers and pins tend to push the broken half deeper or bend it. Keep the piece you are holding: it helps when the cylinder is opened.

I am at a finca outside Aspe with no street number. How do I tell you where I am?

Send a WhatsApp location pin from the gate itself, not from the main road, and say which paraje you are in and what the gate looks like. Then stay near the phone.

It is fiesta time in August and the centre is full. Can you still reach me?

Yes. The van stops where the streets are open and the locksmith walks the rest. Give your street and the nearest square or corner so you are easy to find among the crowds.

Do I pay extra because it is night or Sunday?

The price is agreed with you at the door before the work starts, whatever the hour, so nothing is added afterwards. Payment by cash, card or Bizum.

On the wrong side of your own door?

Ring and say where you are. If it is easier, WhatsApp a pin from the door.
